Tuve la suerte de nacer en "Coactemalan" en lengua Quiché, "Guatemala" en español... que significa:

                                                  "La Tierra de los Árboles"

​

Hija de un padre nacido en el famoso país Vasco, en el norte de España, en donde la tierra también es verde, llena de montañas y rodeada del bravo mar Cantábrico.  Inspirado por su bella ciudad de Bilbao, me puso de nombre: BEGOÑA, el nombre de la Santa Vírgen que ha sido el símbolo de la firmeza de los vascos.  Mí nombre está escrito en Vascuence, la lengua que hablan allí y se escribe BEGO OÑA--y significa: Al pie de la Montaña o Pie firme.  ​

Por el otro lado mi querida madre hermosa nación en la capital de una de las regiones más hermosas de Guatemala--Santa Cruz del Quiché.  En esta bella región es donde todavía viven descendientes de los Mayas, los QUICHÉS.  Como mi abuelo materno también era español, mi madre nunca aprendió la lengua Quiché.  ​

Mi hermana Rosario y yo, nacimos en la capital de Guatemala, pero cuando yo tenía 4 años de edad, mis padres decidieron regresar a vivir a Bilbao, España.  Así que por eso tengo dos patrias que me vieron nacer y crecer.  Hice toda mi escuela primaria y secundaria allí, teniendo la oportunidad de aprender el "Castellano" en su forma tradicional, además del Francés. Cuando era de empezar mi Bachillerato, mis padres de nuevo decidieron mudarse de regreso a Guatemala, así que aquí fue donde terminé mis estudios escolares.​

Enamorada de la belleza de mis dos tierras y del arte, comencé a estudiar la carrera universitaria de Arquitectura, en la Universidad Jesuíta Rafael Landívar. Además de estudiar tuve que comenzar a trabajar al mismo tiempo.  Lamentablemente, no pude terminar la carrera y tuve que comenzar a trabajr de tiempo completo.  Gracias al entrenamiento linguístico fui contratada como Secretaria Bilingüe para la Cámara de Comercio Norteamerican (AMCHAM). ​

Ahora, después de más de 32 años me encuentro logrando alcanzar una meta que dejé pendiente--el gradúarme de una universidad.  Estoy estudiando la Licenciatura de Español, con Educación para dar clases a todo nivel escolar, aquín en el país al que ahora llamo mí hogar... EUA.  Vivo feliz con mis cuatro hijos Luke y Isaac (humanos), además de Joe y Frenchy (caninos), en San Antonio, Texas. Este año 2013 estaré haciendo mis prácticas educativas en una escuela pública, y al completar ese requisito, me estaré graduando como Licenciada en Idioma Español, con Certificación K-12, de la Universidad Our Lady of the Lake University.​

Además de ésta trayectoria educativa, he tenido la oportunidad de trabajar por más de 20 años dentro del medio del Cine y Televisión.  Soy Maquillista Profesional, promotora de los derechos de las víctimas de violencia doméstica, y luchadora por el empoderamiento educativo de las mujeres que forman parte de las minorías en nuestro país. Apasionada de la humanidad y el mundo, he viajado a 23 países... y continuaré viajando.​

The magic of words and pictures, transforms ones mind thru reading... just as it happened to me at the age of four.  We had just moved from Guatemala to Spain, and when we arrived in Bilbao, my parents decided that I needed to attend a pre-school where I could meet other kids to play with.  I do not remember much of the school ground, desks, or walls, but I do remember the people I met, especially Madre Milagros, my first gratde teacher.  She was loving, yet firm, funny, yet knowledgeable.  When I learned to read, my world changed forever... I believe that was my first call to education.​

​

Since God made me an arttist, I can remember "taking pictures in my mind" of the words and sounds they made.  And I still use that same technique(phonograms) to learn a new world or language for that matter. Even though I did not grow up with "computers", and the walls in the classroom did not have a lot of pictures, or color, the new method I was taught opened the door to a new world of imagination that I loved.  I even invented my own language, and played singing with my sister (four years older) who loved reading the newspaper to me.  Together we spend many hours sharing our loneliness in a new place by simply reading.

I always say that "life happens" even when you least expect it. After my father's death, just a week after graduating from High School, I joined Architecture School in a Jesuit University, Rafael Landívar, in Guatemala. After two an a half years, I had to start working full time and stopped attending college. Due to my early training of foreign languages, I was able to get a job as a Bilingual Secretary with the Public Relation Committee for the American Chamber of Commerce.

​

Having been involved in my two son's education during the past 18 years, gave me the opportunity to experience first hand what a difference a great techer makes in the children's life.  I believe that education is a mission I have been called to serve wholeheartedly, and I intend to do just that for as long as God keeps me here.

 

My involvement in the private, public and international sectors as a prent, volunteer, tutor, activist, artist, and teacher, round up a diverse set of experiences that I will bring into the classroom. The lates assignment I held was as the Home Support Liaison, for Young Women's Leadership Academy (YWLA), an SAISD school.  It is the first college preparatory, Title 1, school for girls only, in San Antonio.  Before that assignment I also worked for YWLA as Avid Tutor, and Substitute Teacher for SAISD.

​

              It is my personal belief that by empowering women through education in our minority groups, we are educating the future leaders of society.  SIngle women are raising the majority of children in our country today, and when one empowers a woman, the children are empowered too. More than anything else, I can say that I am grateful for one of the greatest achievements of my life, my two sons... they are the reason for my existence and the engine that fuels my future goals as a teacher, mentor and public servant.​

 

             In addition to my journey in education, I have had the opportunity to work in the Film & TV Industry for over 20 years as a Professional Makeup Artist.  I consider myself a bit of a rensissance woman--Makeup Artist, Advocate for the rights of Domestic Violence Victims, a supporter of Women's educational empowerment for minorities in our coutry.  Passionate about people and the world we live in, I have traveled to 23 countries... and will continue to do so.
